Academic Programs

Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism offers a variety of academic programs to meet the needs of new and continuing journalists. The full-time and part-time Master of Science and the Master of Arts programs are the core of the school. In addition, a Doctor of Philosophy in Communications and various fellowships are offered. M.S. Program

The Master of Science program is the traditional cornerstone of the journalism school and trains students to think, write, and report critically, preparing them for careers in journalism. In the second half of their program students specialize in one of the four following fields: Broadcast, Magazine, New Media, or Newspaper. Students may pursue an M.S. degree as either a full-time or a part-time student.

M.A. Program

The school has a Master of Arts degree program that focuses on teaching future leaders in journalism about complicated subjects they might encounter in their careers. Students may select one of the following concentrations: Politics, Arts & Culture, Business & Economics, and Science. It will help journalists to become experts in the fields they cover.
