NARR: At Mr. Dennehy?s on Carmine St. last night, the men and women
sat in separate rows separated by a small table. They had five minutes
to get to know each other before a bell rang signaling they must move
on to the next prospective love interest. Most said they were here
just to have a good time. Noel Leddy said he?s willing to take a
chance, and it?s more fun than staying home on the couch.
ACT: NOEL LEDDY: I talked to a few, and I think I have one on the
line, so it?ll be ok. (:07)
NARR: Some of the guys also saw it as an opportunity to be someone
new and different. One told me it made the night more enjoyable. Then
there was Eddie Blue. He took role-playing to a whole new level.
ACT: EDDIE BLUE: And you could role play it too. I was a stuntman
tonight, a bungee jumper, a professional surfer. At some points I told
them I was starring in a new indie film coming out called in the big
hoax. (:17)
NARR: Sarah Smith says she thinks she met a few new friends, but
didn? t find the man of her dreams. She was glad she came, and wasn?t
fooled by the stuntman.
ACT: SARAH SMITH: I think it was really good. It was a lot of fun. I
think some people take it serioiusly, some don?t, and the mix of that
makes it a lot of fun. (:08)
NARR: Not eveyone at the bar was an eager participant. Sarah Wolfson
showed up with a few friends, because she said it beat staying home
with her cat feeling sorry for herself. But when she saw some of the
players in the game, she had serious reservations about speed dating.
ACT: SARAH WOLFSON: Have you taken a look at the guys that are speed
dating? I would rather be single or a lesbian. (:06)
NARR: Wolfson says she?s too young to get married, but wouldn?t mind a
boyfriend.
ACT: SARAH WOLFSON: Listen, if anyone is single, good looking, doesn?t
live with his mother, has a job, call me. (:06)
NARR: Not one woman who played the game admitted she was here looking
for her prince charming, but all of them said they would do it again.
Perhaps Eddie Blue said what many of the players, including himself,
were thinking.
ACT: EDDIE BLUE: There might be that one moment that one time, special
time, in your life, when magic happens, and that?s very rare, but you
may run into that person, and that aspect of it for me was the most
enticing aspect of the whole thing. (:18)
NARR: I?m not sure I know which role Eddie Blue was playing, but
isn?t that what Valentine?s Day is all about anyway?
