Gil Griffin has spent nearly 20 years as a professional journalist, in newspapers and at  magazines and radio stations. He won several writing awards as a features staff reporter for the San Diego Union-Tribune and was a reporter on the breaking news team of the Albuquerque Tribune. Griffin also was an associate editor of Young Sisters and Brothers magazine, the country’s first national, monthly lifestyle publication serving young adult African-American readers. In 1999, Griffin was chosen as a Knight Fellow by the International Center for Journalists and served a four-month assignment the next year, in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, the Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea as a media trainer to various media outlets. He also has done freelance on-air reporting for KPBS-FM radio, in San Diego; been an anchor and producer at KNML-AM radio, in Albuquerque. His work has also been aired on National Public radio. Griffin graduated the J School in the Class of 1994.
