Matt Hirshberg spent 15 years on the political science faculty at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, where he won a distinguished teaching award in 2003.  He hosted two weekly radio shows in New Zealand, and has more recently worked as a producer at Air America Radio.  He is the author of Perpetuating Patriotic Perceptions: The Cognitive Function of the Cold War, and a variety of scholarly articles and chapters.  A former secretary of the New Zealand Political Studies Association, he served on the governing council of the International Society of Political Psychology, and on the editorial board of the journal, Political Psychology.  He has a B.A. from Oberlin College, an M.S. from Columbia Journalism School, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Washington.
