Financing a graduate education is a challenge and a major investment in a student's future. The majority of our students use a combination of personal savings, scholarships and loans to cover the cost of attendance. The Journalism School financial aid office, in conjunction with the Columbia University student financial services office, works with each student to meet the financial needs of their programs' student budget.
Fellowships and Scholarships

The Graduate School of Journalism School is proud to offer approximately $4.4 million annually in fellowship and scholarships to students who demonstrate excellent academic achievement, financial need and exceptional promise for leading careers in journalism.
The Journalism School offers several fellowships that provide significant financial aid (usually at least half-tuition,) as well as numerous scholarship awards.
Allocations of the fellowships and scholarships are based on the applicant's merit as evaluated by the admission’s committee and financial need as evidenced in the applicant’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Graduate School of Journalism Financial Aid Form, available after the application submission date, sometime in the middle of January 2008. In addition application for some fellowships require a written essay or other work. These requirements will be included in the Graduate School of Journalism Financial Aid Form.
All U.S. applicants requesting financial aid must fill out a FAFSA and Graduate School of Journalism Financial Aid form by early March 2008 -- deadline dates have not yet been finalized for academic Year 2008-2009. International applicants are required to fill out the Graduate School of Journalism Financial Aid Form. Both forms will be available online the first week of January. All applicants will be sent a reminder after their applications have been received.

Scholarships, Fellowships and More Resources
Applicants are encouraged to seek funding from all available sources as the need for scholarships far exceeds the amount The Journalism School has to allocate. Start your search early as many scholarships have December and January deadlines.
