Democratic Senator Jon Corzine appears to be leading against Republican Doug Forrester in New Jersey's gubernatorial race. The Associated Press is reporting that with about 12 percent of the votes in, Corzine is ahead by 7 percentage points.

The Associated Press is now declaring Democrat Leiutenant Governor Tim Kaine the winner of the states' gubernatorial race. He has defeated Republican Jerry Kilgore. The Associated Press is reporting that with about 80 percent of the precincts reporting, Kaine was ahead by about 4 percentage points. Washington DC insiders have been following the race closely, in the ope of getting a sense of whether or not voters nationwide are turning against Republicans, as allegations of scandal swirl around the Bush White House.

Polls closed in New York City a half hour ago. Mayor Michael Bloomberg ran the most expensive mayoral re-election campaign in history. In 2001, he spent 74 million dollars. He is likely to have spent more this year.

It's been a mixed day for gay rights. In Texas, more than 70 percent of votes were cast in favor of state constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage. This makes Texas the 19th state to impose such a ban. But in Maine, a measure that would repeal a

gay rights law is trailing in early returns.

Buffalo will get a new mayor to replace Anthony Masiello. If elected, candidate Byron Brown would become the first back mayor in upstate New York's largest city. The winner will have to implement a new state-imposed budget.
