Taxi of the Future

by

Intro:

100 years ago, the first gas-powered taxicab hit the streets of New York City. Today, the taxi is as much a symbol of the big apple as the ball dropping on New Years Eve. But while the city has undergone major updates in the last century, taxicabs remain relatively outdated. At least 90% of all taxicabs in New York City are Ford Crown Victorias - a model some say has outlived its usefulness. In an exhibit at the New York International auto show, a group called the design trust for public space is showcasing their version of the taxi's of the future. I spoke with Deborah Marton, the group's executive director at the exibit.
